At Peetz we handcraft our famous reels from start to finish. Just like we've done for over 85 years.
The inside face of the reel begins by attaching the stamped brass plates and the rough cut mahogany drum.
Here you can see a 5" Classic Wooden Reel being turned on a lathe. The wood and the brass are both brought to shape and edged to exact specifications.
Now that the drum side of the reel is shaped and sized, the signature decorative engraved circles are added free hand by an experienced eye.
The drum is now ready for the Peetz brand which is burned onto the mahogany face of the reel.
The 5" Classic reel is now shaped, sanded, branded and ready for our unique coating to ensure a tough but beautiful finish.
One of the wonders of natural wood is that every reel is different in color and grain, making every one just a little unique.
With drums now completed, the pancake or back side of the reel are ready to be attached using a flat brass plate. This will provide added structural strength to the reel and a rod mount strong enough for even the toughest fish.
The pancakes below are finished with all of the key internal elements in place including the legendary Peetz drag system and it's "oh so sweet" sounding drag clicker. The two halves are now ready for final assembly.
A little final assembly and the handcrafted 5" classic reels are complete.
The Classic 5" Wooden Trolling reel! If you haven't fished with one, what are you waiting for? The most enjoyable fishing reel experience you might ever have.
